Here and Now

Love Hewitt's looking at movie options for when she's finishing shooting her TV series GHOST WHISPERER in March. She's also keen to keep up her producing: "If I decided not to act one day, it would be lovely to have a functioning production company so I could go off and still be apart of the business that I love."

Jane: You filmed "The Truth About Love" in the UK. Learn any good swear words of phrases?

Love: "Cheeky sod." And "Bless your cotton socks." But "bollocks" was the one that stuck with me. It's very descriptive.

How did you find our British cuisine?

John Hay (the director of "The Truth About Love") didn't want me to be super skinny. Usually it's 'don't eat this' and 'don't eat that', but on this it was 'eat all you want!' So I'm now a huge fan of fish and chips and toast soldiers with eggs. And I became obsessed with ginger nuts biscuits.

Hope you ate them properly. Dunked them in a cup of tea first?

Of course! All day!

You were in "Party of Five" with Matthew Fox, who's now a massive star in "Lost." Can you relate that hunk to the guy you worked with as a teenager?

Matthew was always like a papa to our group. He was always lovely, so I love people going crazy over him now. But when I hear 'stud this' or 'hunk that', I'm like, "What are you talking about?" I don't think of him that way.

Do you see any of the "Party of Five" gang?

Lacey Chabert and I worked together on a "Ghost Whisperer" episode. Scott Wolf, I don't see very often. Everybody's gone off, gotten married, have loved ones and moved to other places.

Speaking of loved ones, apart from a much-publicized split from Carson Daly, we don't see much of your private life in the news.....

I don't think your career should be about what you wear to go to sleep or what you eat for breakfast. So much of my life is out there to read. It's great if my love life is the thing that people don't know every detail on.

Fans are very keen about knowing all about your boobs though. Are you uncomfortable so much attention is focused on them?

It makes me laugh----there's a hundred other body parts that I feel completely insecure about and would rather no one ever talked about. So if they focus on those, it's fine with me! My breasts have a career of their own.

They were quiet prominent in "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and the sequel. Why did you pass on part three, "I Always Know What You Did Last Summer?"

They called me when the second one came out and said, "Would you be interested in doing a third?" But I didn't think my top could get any smaller, quiet honestly.

Have you seen it?

I haven't. A month ago I was in a video store and I was like, "Oh my God! They made another one!" I had a great time but I didn't want to do that type of movie forever.

Instead you did "Garfield" and its sequel. Er, why?

I love kids and this was an opportunity to get to be in a movie that would put a smile on a kid's face. It was fun.

Didn't you feel foolish trying to interact with air?

Actually, no. I do that a lot on my TV show "Ghost Whisperer" when I talk to ghosts. I'm kinda use to it.

Have you seen any real ghosts?

Yeah, we've seen ghosts show up on the film stock and when we've gone back and looked at the dailies. The show is about them so it's nice of them to show up!

You looked set to be a star after "Heartbreakers" but your movie career stalled alittle. Did winning the People's Choice Award for best new female TV star make up for that?

I don't know. With a movie you have one chance---an hour and a half to convince an audience you're someone they should spend time and money on. With TV you get to do that every week. I don't know if audiences respond to me more in TV than film, of if it's just my character.

So is there a character you're dying to play to surprise people?

I love to do a Jane Austin period piece and I'd really like to direct. Other than that I don't know I don't know. I enjoy the ride of wherever the business takes me.

"THE TRUTH ABOUT LOVE" opens 16th of February 2007.
