Dream whisperer
by Syida Lizta Amirul Ihsan
What's in a dream? SYIDA LIZTA
AMIRUL IHSAN talks to a dream analyst to find out.
WHAT dreams tell about us and
our lives depend on who you ask the question. Ask the
sceptical and the cynical and they will tell you they’re all
mind games and reflections of what you had been thinking
before you went to bed. There’s no deeper meaning to them.
But ask someone like Craig Sim Webb, who makes a living on
analysing dreams, and you’ll get a different answer.
After a near-death experience while whitewater rafting, Webb
began recalling up to 10 dreams a day. It was then that he
made dream analysis his calling.
He took part in pioneer research on the subject at Stanford
University and Montreal’s Sacre-Coeur Hospital, and has made
numerous media, public, academic and corporate presentations
on dreams, including nightmares and lucid dreaming, as well
as on consciousness and practical psychology.
He helps his clients explore, understand and work through
their dreams and related life challenges. Webb also has a
weekly radio show, Making Contact, airing on 200
international stations.

www.dreamingaboutyou.com if you want your dreams
explained. Below he analyses some celebrities’ dreams.
- Teeth flying out of her mouth while she’s talking — that
is what actress Halle Berry has been dreaming for much of
her life!
Says Webb: “Losing teeth is a fairly common dream and it
generally means letting go of things. It might signify that
Halle is very stressed and needs to find ways to balance her
busy schedule. It may also mean she sometimes uses strong
language that she later regrets, or is grieving over the
loss of a loved one. Again, it all boils down to letting
go.”
- Walking on clouds or falling
softly and safely. That’s what actress Jennifer Love Hewitt
dreams about.
Says Webb: “Falling and flying is another very common
cross-cultural dream theme. Initially the dreams are
fearful, with the dreamer feeling out of control as they
fall. In flying dreams, dreamers feel a great sense of
freedom, lightness and joy. The main lesson here (like in
nightmares) is to realise that we are actually safe in bed
and need not succumb to the fear, waking up frightened or
upset. Jennifer seems to have done this by transforming the
potential fear of falling into the freedom of floating
gently to the ground.”
- Television host Xandria Ooi dreams of being in a conflict,
and of being on the run, though she is not sure from whom.
She just feels she needs to get away to a safe place.
Says Webb: This sort of dream suggests you are disconnected
from, and fearful of, some aspect of yourself. You don’t
feel safe and naturally you run from it. The fight in the
dream is symbolically unrest within, and between different
parts of yourself, even though your subconscious may have
chosen people you know to represent these opposing selves
inside you.
To be more specific about what or who you are running away
from, more needs to be known about your friends and family.
Usually, what this dream means is you don’t always stand up
for yourself and your viewpoint, while not judging the other
party. The dream is offering you an opportunity to summon
greater courage and develop more confidence and
assertiveness.
- Model and television personality Daphne Iking says she
dreams of past lovers meeting up with her husband, and of
her getting acquainted with them all over again. There are
also friends in the dream with whom she has a falling out,
but ironically, supports her at the same time.
The dreams occurred prior to her wedding and delivery of her
first child. She meets up with old flames who were unkind
during their courtship, but who are now strangely loving and
supportive.
Says Webb: Being pregnant and meeting past romantic partners
are common elements in many dreams. Your dreams, which sound
like they came in a series, seem to be offering an
opportunity to help you make peace with the past, as well as
to recognise the true love of your life — your husband.
Many people dream of past romantic partners during a new
relationship as reminders of what they felt like to be in
love.
The dreams came when you were having doubts about committing
your life to your husband-to-be and to becoming a mother.
The dreams are trying to show you how the love and various
connections you had felt with others in the past are now all
being directed towards your husband- and baby-to-be.
Dreamy Scent
“DREAMING is a very personal and intimate experience and I
want to capture this with my new fragrance, Dreaming,” says
Tommy Hilfiger.
“When people dream, they transport themselves to a different
realm in their lives,” he says.
The fragrance he formulated for this experience uses white
peach, tuberose and freesia to “tempt, invite and seduce”.
“This is a new direction for Tommy,” says Aramis and
Designer Fragrances worldwide corporate fragrance
development vice president Trudi Loren.
The fragrance is available at all Tommy Hilfiger counters.
Prices start from RM80 for the rollerball/lip gloss duo to
RM250 for the 100ml EDP spray.

Heigl learns lesson from Jennifer
Love Hewitt
by Courtney Hazlett
of The Scoop
Unlike many brides, “Grey’s
Anatomy” star Katherine Heigl did not go into workout
mode in order to fit into her wedding dress. Instead,
she made a final push to get in shape after witnessing
Jennifer Love Hewitt’s recent “fat” fracas.
“Oh,
my god, if they think she looks bad then I'm screwed,”
Heigl told OK! magazine. In fact, Heigl credits Hewitt
with having a healthy attitude toward the public
response to what many considered unflattering photos: “I
should really take a note from her and not care so much
— she looks amazing. She has a phenomenal body!”
Heigl and her musician beau, Josh Kelley,
married Dec. 23
at the Stein Eriksen Lodge in Park City, Utah. While
many of her “Grey’s” co-stars were not able to make the
wedding, Justin Chambers, T.R. Knight and Kate Walsh
were at the wedding. Post-nuptials, the newlyweds headed
to the Esperanza Resort in Los Cabos, Mexico, for their
honeymoon.
