In her new show Jennifer Love Hewitt talks to the dead.  Here, she talks to us about her new love CHARLIE, and living a life in the shadows of Shar-Peis.

You’ve heard of pet psychics, read about animal communicators and probably watched “Dog Whisperer” a time or two.  But there’s a new celestial celebrity on the scene: Jennifer Love Hewitt in her new role on CBS’ “Ghost Whisperer.”  She plays Melinda Gordon, a woman who has the gift of speaking with and seeing the dead.

Jennifer is back in the spotlight after making her way through teen angst in “Party Of Five”, dogging a serial killer in “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” and providing a stellar comedic performance in “Heartbreakers” with screen legend Sigourney Weaver.

At first, “Ghost Whisperer” was met with mediocre reviews, but it has attracted droves of fans and is steadily earning top ratings on Friday nights.  “We’ve been really excited that people have responded to the show the way they have,” Jennifer says about the show’s success.  “It’s been an adjustment, just knowing how to keep you energy up and making sure you stay healthy and rested, but it’s been a welcome adjustment in my life.”

Her new show is not the only change to Jennifer’s daily routine.  Jennifer recently became a mom to a one-year-old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel named Charlie.  “[I’ve had dogs] for about six years.  I still have my Chihuahua [Mia],” she says of her life with canines.  “I’ve been lucky to have two really great dogs.”

She’s also a recent convert from the feline (dark?) side.  Ina previous life, she --- and we won’t hold this against her ---spent time with a quite a few cats.  “I love cats, but dogs have such unconditional love that it’s so nice,” she says.  “Cats are a little too independent.”

She lives in Los Angeles with Mia and Charlie, a place that makes her feel like she belongs: “People here understood what I felt like to perform,” she says.  The family of three loves to go for walks in their neighborhood, but there’s one aspect of the Tinseltown lifestyle Charlie has yet to embrace.  Instead of shopping at the chic dog boutiques and wearing the latest in canine couture, she prefers to go au natural.  “Her fur is just perfect,” Jennifer explains.  She does spoil Charlie with lots of “silly toys,” carrots, and time on set.

Jennifer got the chance to work with some very talented actors on the set of “Garfield” – she played Liz the vet in the original and the upcoming sequel.  “You know it’s very hard to be out shined by Shar Peis,” she says.

“The Dobermans have a brilliant close-up.  These dogs would just go and hit their mark, and they’d have these little facial expressions…..it was amazing. I would do it again in a heartbeat.  I love working with animals, they bring so much joy!”  But when comparing Garfield to his canine counterparts, Jennifer says, “Garfield is a much bigger diva.”

To prepare for her role on “Ghost Whisperer” she spent time with renowned psychic James Van Praagh, who is also the co-executive producer of the show.  “I looked into her eyes, and I said, “she’s the one.”  I could tell right away she was made for [the role],” James says of choosing Jennifer for the lead.  “And people who are watching this for the first time, who are questioning this whole [psychic] thing.  When they look at her, she brings them right in with her eyes and her attitude and her personality.  She’s the nicest actress I’ve ever worked with.  She’s very sweet, gracious person.  What you see on screen is what you get in person.  She’s a lot like Melinda in certain ways.”

With all of this psychic practice, perhaps Jennifer has been able to sense something in Charlie.  “[If we could communicate] hopefully [she would tell me] that she was really happy and loved me.”

Our in house psychic medium Linda Lauren took a ‘read’ of Charlie and Jennifer and tells us, “Their bond is strong and pertains to rescuing each other’s hearts, which means that Charlie is a true spiritual companion.”

And Jennifer hates to be without her, “[The hardest part is] not being able to spend every second with her because of work.”  But Jennifer has learned a valuable lesson in her six years with the canine kind, “[The best thing about owning dogs in their] unconditional love and friendship.”

THE PAST LIVES OF
JENNIFER AND CHARLIE

Jennifer and Charlie have a long history together in terms of looking out for each other.  Their bond is strong and pertains to rescuing each other’s hearts, which means that Charlie is a true spiritual companion.  She will always offer Jennifer a positive vibration to carry with her.  To connect with Charlie, all she has to do is to speak in a clear and concise manner, as Charlie is very smart and already keenly aware of what Jennifer is thinking before she even speaks!  (Good thing Charlie’s not human, as she could cause some real problems with giving away Jennifer’s secrets!)

Their past life connection involved aristocracy in England, and both were treated royally as befits their station in life.  To say that Charlie thought of herself as a princess is an understatement.  She was the queen of her littler family, that’s for sure!  That past life today will represent itself in Charlie being very spoiled, so Jennifer might want to work with a trainer on those issues as they come up.

As to their future in our time, I wouldn’t be surprise if Jennifer and Charlie worked together in the entertainment industry at some point.  I also get some strong sense of Jennifer writing a book and creating a product line that involves her pets, with Charlie as the showcase.  All in all, these two will enjoy a long, rewarding relationship together and I would encourage them to be open to everything good that comes their way!
