After conquering TV ("Party Of
Five") and the big screen ('I Know What You Did Last
Summer'), JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT is ready to make a big
impression on the music scene with her latest solo
release, BareNaked! BareNaked is actually Jennifer's fourth album. She's already had two releases in the U.S. -- 1995's Let's Go Bang and 1996's Jennifer Love Hewitt, and one in Japan-- 1998's Love Songs. For this album, she joins such heavyweights as BRITNEY SPEARS and *NSYNC (who Love Hewitt has led a path for) on the venerable Jive record label. She wrote or co-wrote all but four songs on her latest release, proving that she really is serious about this music thing! The attention-getting title track opens up the album, though, as it turns out, the provocatively titled song is more about dealing with insecurity than peeling off clothes. It's an upbeat pop tune that should be popular with the back-to-school crowd (imagine a swarm of kids running through the halls shouting "I'm Bare Naked/and I just can't take it!"). |
| Jennifer gets salty on the
island-flavored track "Can I Go," singing
lyrics packed with punch: "Can I go now/ you said
what you had to say/ happy you got your way/ there's
nothing to discuss." We get to hear Jennifer's voice
up close and personal on the subdued love ballad,
"You." And as it turns out, her voice is quite
impressive in both dynamic range and emotional
conveyance. "Hey Everybody" is a soulful jam with a hint of gospel and lots of foot-stompin' rhythm! It's got catchy lyrics too: "Hey everybody/ do you know what I mean/ we can get it dirty while we're keeping it clean." Jennifer keeps the funky groove alive on the smoky tune "I Know You Will." She even sings the blues on the final track, which is an a cappella cover of JANIS JOPLIN's version of "Me And Bobby McGee." This tune was originally written by songwriter/Hollywood actor KRIS KRISTOFFERSON. With her new album, Jennifer shows that she is capable of making quality pop music and that she's not afraid of venturing into rock, soul and the blues as well. So is she giving up her acting career for music? Not anytime soon, though she recently told Billboard, "I'm a singer who acts," adding "I love acting, but it came unexpected in my life. Singing has always been a part of me." Jennifer's new album Bare Naked hits stores September 17 (Bumped back to October 8, 2002). She will also be starring with JACKIE CHAN in the upcoming action/comedy 'The Tuxedo,' which hits theaters September 27. |
